Kessel Picked Dead Last

phil kessel picked last all star game

Why does it amuse me so much that token Maple Leafs representative Phil Kessel was picked dead last in the All-Star Fantasy Draft last night? Sure, he got a car and $20,000 to soften the embarrassment but still. It’s pretty humiliating.

Kessel tried to act like it didn’t matter.

“I don’t care one bit at all,” said Kessel. “When I was a kid, I would never have dreamed of being here. Hopefully the fans in Toronto are happy to see me in the game. I’ll play well in the game for them.”

Um. Unlike how you’ve played for them this season?

Kessel has 34 points in 49 games for the Leafs this season and is a -19. Toronto, by the way, currently sits as the 5th worst team in the NHL meaning that the second of the 1st round picks the Bruins acquired for young Phil is, at this point, a Lottery Pick once again.

Way to keep bringing up the rear, Toronto.
